Chevrolet Bolt EV Makes Its Entrance At The 2015 NAIAS In Detroit

Live from Detroit, here is the Chevrolet Bolt on the floor of the NAIAS.

GM says of the Concept Bolt: “A vision for an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle designed to offer more than 200 miles of range starting around $30,000”

We should note (and as can be seen in live photos) that the around $30,000 is after incentives.

Full details, specs and more official pics and videos can be found here.

I like what I see.

I was wondering what you thought of it. I find it compelling too.

Indeed it is nice looking. The only thing would be the number of seats in the back, I would prefer 3 smaller seats, but for others 2 would do.
To me it looks better than the i3 or the Leaf.

Stage sign says “About $30,000 After Tax Incentives”. That puts MSRP at $37,500 and gives competitors room to battle.
A 150 mile Leaf with MSRP of $34,000 would still be competitive.

Yeah, between this, the Tesla Model III, the Nissan Leaf 2.0, and the VW eGolf 2.0, 2017 is going to be an interesting year.

That’s exactly how I read the Leaf 2.0 situation — not quite as many miles for not quite as many dollars. And based on hints from Nissan (like the infamous “what you pay for double the range” survey question), I suspect they’re dialed in to 150 miles for the Leaf 2.0.

Buckle your seat belt, kids — it’s gonna be a pretty wild ride for the next few years.

It looks like a Leaf with short hood and normal headlights

I really hope they don’t call it the “Bolt” That could get so confusing with the “Volt”. V and B sound the same. Name it something else, but please not “Bolt”

I love the look on the 2016 Volt. It looks attractive and aggressive. Why does the Bolt have to look like this. I was excited about this car from the pictures of the white concept car(that was gorgeous). But this is too ugly. The headlights are too far up and pulled back. Could GM make this car look good? like the 2016 Volt?

I thought it was a very good name, thinking the design would be bold. Now it happens to be rather ‘normal’, Bolt as a name would be less of a word game that fits.

Yet still I think Bolt, next to Volt, is great as a compact BEV. Make the Spark electric-only and there you have another great name of the GM electric family, for the mini size. And the future large BEV can then be named Lightning.

I’m almost positive the larger BEV from GM will be the Buick Electra. I wonder if GM will ever name a BEV EV2?

Has anyone noticed that the “B” in the Logo “Bolt” actually looks like a “3”.

Not a fluke!!!! Chevy is taking aim at Tesla Model III (3) and BMW i3

I guess it’s a lighting effect on this particular picture.

Sign me up. This would get us to either L.A. or San Jose before needing a quick charge, which makes it doable for long trips.

Our Leaf lease is up in Jan ’17… hopefully won’t need much of a stop gap.

If you’re 200 miles from both San Jose and LA, then that puts you around the Visalia area or maybe Fresno. Do you have trouble with the DCQCs in Bakersfield and Merced often or something? Because those chargers would get you to either destination.

Also, I wouldn’t go counting on that 200 mile figure. It’s likely to be considerably less when the car gets its EPA rating.

I’m surprised they thought copying the i3 was a good idea. Drop the faux grille. Drop they faux shifter.

I’d still buy it but I can’t say I’m excited by it. :-/

Good looking car. I hope the production model looks that good. Love the new interior style.

I’m impressed that the CEO was presenting it. This speaks volumes to me who distrusts GM after the EV1.

I’m probably missing something — has GM committed to producing the Bolt? I have not been able to gleen this from the information available today.
