China’s Changan Auto To Stop Selling Gas Cars By 2025

FEB 11 2018 BY MARK KANE 9

Chinese manufacturer Changan intends to be one of the first automakers to discontinue the sale of combustion-engine cars.  ETA for the phaseout to be completed is pegged for 2025.

Over that period, the company’s investment into New Energy Vehicle technology (AKA all-electric and/or plug-in hybrid tech) is to exceed 100 billion yuan ($15.10 billion).

“Chongqing Changan is one of the first Chinese companies to commit to a total phase-out of petrol-engine cars.”

The strategy of Changan could pay off, especially if China remains on its current course to promote plug-in vehicles and legislate their introduction – especially the encouragement for domestic products.

“China has begun studying when to ban the production and sale of cars using traditional fuels, the official Xinhua news agency said last month, citing comments by the vice industry minister, who predicted “turbulent times” for automakers forced to adapt”

What about US? When is sensibility and reasoning going to overcome greed of oil industry? US is much more suitable to adopt EV because suburban homes have garage and EVs can be charged easily while big cities in China people in high rise apartment building without easy access to electric outlet. US is torn apart from within by greedy vested industries. Big pharma, big insurance, big oil, big finance, big Realtors..

Hypocrisy some, Dan? U.S. CONSUMERS are the guilty, demanding huge gas-guzzlers & rejecting taxes on fuels. Those you accuse are merely meeting market conditions.

That’s really convenient to blame brainwashed populace! Proof of corporate greed machine blaming it on the victims! Why is it cool to drive SUV? Why is it cool to have an iPhone?

This is significant. Changan are one of China’s ‘big four’ car manufacturers and produce a similar number of vehicles as BMW. Western manufacturers need to get ready. Once domestic demand is met in 10 years time or so these cars will start flooding global markets.

2025…maybe the exact date of China’s intended end date on non-zero emission car sales is starting to shape up?

That would be awesome !
Also BAIC announced the same thing (a few weeks after Changan did).
Yes, only electric cars from 2025.
And they specified BEVs only.
They are both (mainly) state owned.

And this is what can happen when Government and Industry are on the same page. But like everything else, it has its pros and cons.

Great move. This will start to spread in the industry until the last one closes like for steam locomotives.
