According to the CHAdeMO Association, as of September 10, 2013 there were 3,073 DC quick chargers deployed around the globe.

The bulk of them – 1,858 are in Japan, but Europe is going bold now with 897.

In US, there are 306, which is almost 10% of the total, but not nearly enough if we consider that US is the largest market for Nissan LEAF – the most popular CHAdeMO compatible EV.

Rest of the world really doesn’t factor into the total count with just 12 points – this figure hasn’t changed for months.

Anyways, it will be hard to accomplish CHAdeMO’s goal of having 4,000 units by the end of the year. Maybe 3,500?

I don’t know if they count only public available chargers or what are their criteria, but for example the Kia Ray EV car sharing service in Seoul has 28 Chademo chargers alone, which are not counted.

This doesn’t surprise me. I guess that the CHAdeMO association is not told about each single install, and/or maybe their accounting lags behind by quite some time.

In the US, Plugshare/Recargo was already counting 368 quick-chargers last May.

Tesla is quickly catching up to CHAdeMO with 22 Supercharger stations online right now in the USA and 126 plugs (if I counted right) each one able to charge a car at the same time.

They will probably pass CHAdeMO in terms of plugs by the end of the year.

It’s really too bad all these stations aren’t compatible!!!

In the Northeast, you find New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania with no level 3 chargers. If the NY State Thruway, NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, Massachusetts Turnpike, and Pennsylvania Turnpike do not get level 3 charging infrastructure in place, it is going to make it tougher get drivers to select BEVs in the Northeast. Also, these limited access highways would be ideal routes for battery powered trucks making deliveries to the rest stops. Having a level 3 charger at each rest stop for battery truck charging would ensure level 3 infrastructure was used daily, and the fuel savings could be maximized.

I wonder how much work it will be to convert these to SAE chargers (or dual chargers).

for what? there is not a single production EV in the world with the SAE plug right now. Last count there are 50,000 Leafs out there…

… and about two i-MiEVs 😉

Cars with SAE combo plug will soon appear though and their drivers will demand fast charging. The smart thing to do is adapters.

There is one Chademo in Ocala Florida that is not shown on this map.
It is at a Nissan Dealership.

Yep, I’m sure. And at least one in Colorado, New Mexico, a couple in Indiana, and many more on the east coast. None of them made it on the above map, which looks seriously lacking compared to what’s on (deselect all but CHAdeMO in the “more options”).

I’d reckon that the number of CHAdeMO locations in the US is much higher than reported here, surely above 400 by now; see my previous comment.

What ever happened to Nissan’s push to deploy more CHAdeMOs? I seem to recall they made an announcement shortly after Tesla made their supercharger announcement. Since then, Tesla rolls out stations at an impressive clip, gaining media attention each time. Meanwhile, Nissan is silent…

I hope for the day when I can drive up to a charging station and the one station have an L2, Chademo, SAE Combo, and Tesla plug all on the same unit.

The map seems out-of-date.

This site itself announced the opening of 3 DCQC stations in Washington DC.

But none appear on the map, anywhere near the capital.

2 things.

1). Chademo seems to be for now at least. the default dc standard world wide. Thats why I think Nissan was very smart embracing J1772, and optionally Chademo years ago.

2). As the northeast doesn’t have ANY L3, I’d take an occassional working L2 now and then between cities.
