Rio de Janeiro becomes the third city in Brazil to evaluate BYD’s 12 meter electric bus. Earlier, BYD demonstrated this bus in São Paulo and Salvador.

Public transportation companies Fetranspor and Rio Bus will test the BYD ebus for one month on line 249 (Water-Santa Carioca).

The Operation Manager for Mobility at Fetranspor, Guilherme Wilson stated:

“the electric buses are no longer just a promise; the electrical technology is a major innovation in the urban mobility sector. In addition, this vehicle has zero emissions, superior durability and lower operating costs, all considerable advantages towards sustainability.”

Before BYD’s entry, Rio had tested other types of buses like hybrids, diesel from sugar cane, biodiesel and CNG, so it is interesting to find out which option Rio eventually chooses.

As many as in UK… 😛

Anyone know how big the batteries are?

324 kWh. Or small enough to fit the bus… 😉
