Building Permits Show Tesla Gigafactory To Expand
Tesla will, yet again, add another substantial new section to its Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada.
According to BuildZoom, building permits first discovered by Teslarati show that Gigafactory 1 will soon add a Section G. The permits were recently filed by Elon Musk and company and issued on April 13, 2017. The permits specify new construction of a $28 million expansion next to the current main structure (and likely attached).
Thus far, there have been 194 building permits filed over the course of about three years. Of these, 167 have monetary valuations totaling a whopping $1,112,535,506. Expect these announcements to continue over the next several years, since Tesla has announced that the structure is only about 30 percent complete. A company spokesperson explained:
“Already, the current structure has a footprint of 1.9 million square feet, which houses 4.9 million square feet of operational space across several floors. We are still less than 30 percent done. Once complete, we expect the Gigafactory to be the biggest building in the world.” (via Teslarati)
Throughout the months of March and April, the Storey County Community Development issued 26 new permits for the Silicon Valley automaker. The most recent permit, priced at a half-million dollars, is designated as “m3 dispense cell.” Model 3 related?
Tesla will be revealing more Gigafactory-related details later in the year. Also, information and potential locations for subsequent Gigafactories (2, 3, 4, and perhaps 5) is expected to be released prior to the close of the year.
