BMW Unveils Plug-In Hybrid Concept5 X5 eDrive
Flip the calendar back to 1999 and you’ll see that it was BMW who invented the Sports Activity Vehicle segment with the X5.
Now, BMW is trying to re-invent the SAV category with its X5 of the future: BMW Concept5 X5 eDrive.
We’ll call it Concept5 for short.
The Concept5 will makes it worldwide debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and though just a concept at this point in time, we expect BMW to green light it for production soon.
The Concept5 has a listed fuel consumption rating of 3.8 liter per 100 kilometer (62 mpg US). It features an electric motor that pumps out 95 hp, boasts a lithium-ion battery pack that provides up to 19 miles of electric-only range at speeds of up to 75 mph and is off-road capable with all-wheel-drive.
The ICE engine that is used here is a 4-cylinder turbocharged gasser. 0 to 62 mph is accomplished in 7 seconds, with engine hp estimated at just over 180.
And of course, the Concept5 is a plug-in.
More details are expected to be released next month when the Bimmer hits the stage.
