BMW Plug-In Hybrid Concept Active Tourer Outdoor Hints at Future Production 1-Series GT
The BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor is a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid that will evolve to become the production BMW 1-Series GT.
We’ve seen the Concept Active Tourer before, but this one here adds “Outdoor” to its already lengthy name.
Outdoor here means added durability, functionality and ruggedness, according to BMW.
BMW says the Active Tourer Outdoor offers ample interior space and features a rear cargo area that can haul your “outdoor” gear. There’s some sort of concealed bike rack out back, too.
Honestly though, the “Outdoor” bit of he name mostly applies to the vehicles more aggressive, rugged appearance. It’s not quite as luxury looking as the previous Concept Active Tourer. This “Outdoor” one looks ready to pound the pavement.
The BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine with a “high-performance” electric motor and lithium-ion battery.
Total power output is listed at 188 hp. 0 to 60 mph zips by in under 8 seconds and top speed is 125 mph.
While there’s no chance that the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor will enter production, there’s a similar vehicle that will: the 1-Series GT. All of the Concept Active Tourers foreshadow (both in appearance and powertrain) the upcoming 1-Series GT. There’s no exact time frame for the GT’s launch, but BMW assures us it’s coming.
