BMW i8 Wrapped In Neon Green…Yuck!

MAR 20 2015 BY STAFF 5

BMW Abu Dhabi dealership has an interesting i8 in display. The hybrid sportscar gets a green wrap to give the car an even more exotic look.

Apart from the green color, the BMW i8 also carries the Black Belt which is featured on all production vehicles regardless of the selected paint. We’ve recently seen a yellow i8 which is also quite a looker.

The i8 remains a rare car on the road, yet alone one with a flashy paint job. As more i8s get delivered to customers and tuning shops, we expect to see other exciting paint jobs.

BMW USA has just announced that production for the i8 will increase in 2015, with more than 1000 units being planned for the American market.

BMW i8 uses a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and BMW eDrive technology in the form of an electric drive system.

The 1.5-liter combustion engine develops 170 kW/231 hp and drives the rear wheels of the BMW i8, while the 96 kW/131 hp electric drive sends its power to the front wheels and allows an all-electric range of up to 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).

Tesla with a tail says, “What?”

That looks great! It looks like a Kawasaki sport bike. That’s way better than the original colors. The only thing that doesn’t work well are those blue accents. Blacking those out or chroming some of them (particularly the grill) would look slightly nicer.

I agree. If you are going to go through the effort of wrapping, the accents are trivial to change.

Could have been worse. They could have gold-plated the whole thing.

Black and neon green work fine… I don’t care for the cars design, but it’s one of the better looking i8’s.
