BMW i8 Versus BYD Tang – Drag Race Video
3 Y BY ERIC LOVEDAY
It’s incredibly difficult to tell from the video whether or not this is the standard Tang (0 to 62 MPH in 4.9 second, 505 HP) or the Tang Ultimate Edition (0 to 62 MPH in 4.4 seconds, with even more HP), but either way this Tang sure does match up well against the i8.
What’s even more amazing is that the Tang is a big ‘ol SUV, yet it keeps pace with the carbon-fiber, sleek i8.
Tang goes on sale tomorrow in China. BYD expects Tang to easily become China’s best-selling plug-in vehicle.
Some additional Tang specs (via InsideEVs’ Mark Kane) for your reading pleasure:
Pricing starts at around 300,000 yuan (some $48,300) before incentives. Including incentives, price falls to roughly 220,000 yuan ($35,000).
At such a price, Tang offers AWD with 0-100km/ h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and system power of 505 hp. The Tang Ultimate Edition will be strong enough to do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, but the price of that version will be two-thirds higher.
Average fuel economy should be below 2 l/100 km nearly (equal to 147 mpg), according to BYD.
We are not sure about all-electric range with an 18 kWh battery pack, but BYD claims 50 miles / 80 km.
