BMW of North America issued a recall for the 2014 BMW i8.

According to the NHTSA, certain i8s manufactured from May 16, 2014 to September 16, 2014:

“A bolt used to attach a ground cable between the tank and the vehicle chassis may not have been properly welded during manufacturing.”

This is a fire hazard:

“An inadequate weld of the bolt to the fuel tank could cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, a fuel leak could lead to a fire.”

223 i8s could be affected by this recall.

Here’s the recall notice posted on the NHTSA website:

Pure Battery Electric is the only way to go, if you want to avoid fire risks. There have been far fewer Tesla Model S fires than any car that carries gasoline or diesel, for example. There are very few reports of Nissan Leaf fires.
