What are the best electric cars you can buy today in the UK?

Well, if we were looking to compose a list strictly based on sales from last year, it would be the Nissan LEAF…and nothing else.  The LEAF netted 1,812 sales while the rest of the pure EVs (13) combined only registered just over 800.

That being said, we are not authoring this list – domestic magazine AutoExpress is; and thankfully there is a lot of new all-electric choices Brits can buy this year.

Both the BMW i3 and the VW e-Up! have recently arrived in the UK, with the RHD Tesla Model S (right hand drive) in production now in the US, and scheduled for deliveries starting in April.

Unsurprisingly, those three newest entries to the market are also occupying the top three spots.

AutoExpress’ Best EVs in the UK:

1. BMW  i3

The new i3 is unlike any other current BMW on sale. It maintains the brand’s  rear-wheel-drive tradition, but it uses a 168bhp electric motor under the boot  floor, combined with a lithium-ion battery pack. It is also available with an  optional range-extending motorcycle engine that keeps the batteries topped up.”

2. Tesla Model  S

3. VW  e-up!

4. Renault  ZOE

5. Nissan  Leaf

6. Smart  ForTwo ED

7. Renault  Twizy

8. Mitsubishi iMiEV

Why did they put the i3 above the model S?

Because Brits are in love with German cars and they enjoy to hate (but secretly love) anything that comes from America…

Because it is a PIA to drive something the size of the Tesla S around cities.
Can it be done?
Of course.
Is it fun?
No.

Last year i was in China. So much cars, every where trafic. And do you think they have small cars? NO, THEY drive the biggest AUDI, BMW and only SEDANS! So i will say i3 will flop in China. Only the secrets women from rich manager drive small BMW a Chinese say to me…

Becaus BMW pays them money or give them a “present” i3….

They are crazy, Tesla is the best.
