BAIC Will End Production & Sales Of ICE By 2025, Only Plug-Ins After
BAIC Motor, which is one of the largest car manufacturers in China and currently offers the best selling all-electric car in the world for 2017 (the EC180), hints at a phase out of conventional fuel cars.
The plan envisions the end of ICE sales under its own brand in Beijing by 2020.
Production and sales of ICE cars is expected to end nationwide (in China, that is) by 2025.
The company will now focus on all-electric and plug-in hybrids. However, BAIC’s joint venture with Hyundai and Daimler will pursue a different policy under other framework.
BAIC Chairman Xu Heyi said:
“Our goal is to stop sales of self-developed conventional fuel-powered cars in Beijing by 2020 and stop their production and sales nationwide by 2025.”
