Automobile Magazine Evaluates Tesla Model 3 Design
Automobile Magazine believes that the Tesla Model 3 is an “excellent” design. Not much can be said about the interior, as it hasn’t been fully revealed (although there has been much said of the spartan interior/instrumentation in the prototype), but there is much detail to be observed concerning the exterior.
In terms of the vehicle’s cabin, it will surely seat five. However, it is not known how comfortably three adults will fit in back. It is also universally known that the dashboard will encompass a large touch-screen. Aside from this, all we have is a myriad of artists’ renderings and Elon Musk’s promise that it will look like a spaceship.
The evaluation goes on to list a 23-point description of essentially every detail of the vehicle, with some explanations as to concept and purpose. Most notable in Automobile Magazine’s report are the references to aerodynamics.
The really clever stuff is seen in the shield form and the way a large radius at its base directs air to flow around the sedan’s sides. I suspect there is a soft cushion of high-pressure air in front that smooths out at higher speeds, making air effectively part of the vehicle surface. That’s common in aerospace, and both Ferrari and Aston Martin are using air as a tangible but invisible aerodynamic element.
Also worth mentioning are the “hockey stick” shaped door handles that stay flush to the vehicle when not needed. The sedan tends to look larger than it really is for various reasons, including the “blunt” front and the elongated hood. Surely the huge, rounded, panoramic windshield helps, and will make the driver feel as if the vehicle is less restrained.
It will be exciting to see Tesla’s final product. Until it is unveiled, we won’t know anything for sure. Check out the link below for the rest of the details.
