Nissan Leaf after April sales record jump

Nissan LEAF in Norway

The latest data indicates that August was the most successful month for electric vehicle sales in Norway to date.

First of all, 700 passenger electric cars were registered last month, which is 272 more (63.6%) than in August of the previous year.

Under current market conditions, this uptick in sales was enough to take electric vehicles to 6.0% share in passenger cars in August!

For comparison, last year it was “just” 3.6%.

The YTD number for Norway is now at 3,206 plug-in vehicles sold or about 806 (33.6%) more than in the same period last year.

Now, let’s go to most anticipated numbers – Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S.

Nissan LEAF remains the leader with 448 new cars registrations in August 2013, which is 3.8% of the entire automotive market.  This is the second best result for the LEAF and only 7 units below the April record.

The YTD mark for the LEAF stands at 2,690.

Meanwhile, the top selling ICE (Volkswagen Golf) logged 514 sales in August in Norway, so the LEAF seems to have a shot at being Number 1 in the future.

Tesla brand results (mostly attributed to Model S, though a few Roadster may still remain in the mix) in August were 185 units or 1.6% share of the passenger vehicle market.

185 is certainly high and likely means that the Model S trampled sales of all ICE luxury vehicles.

All of the other electric models available in Norway probably logged only a few dozen registrations, but those details have not been released yet.

Well done Norway. Despite the ridiculously high prices on the few lame products we are getting so far.
When prices come down and cars might get more exciting Norway could snap over way ahead of the rest of the world. It can be a bastion of the future. A beacon in the high north.
My Denmark should have done the same but alas we have been infected somewhat by the evil of USA. Fairly highly educated people mindlessly questioning the reality of global warming. And we joined Bushes satanic wars because of the right wing fool who was in charge. Paid off with the Nato chief post. Such facepalm.
Pity him for the punishment that awaits him.

Wow, Dan… you went from EV sales in Norway to the evil USA, global warming, and the satanic Bushes, all in one paragraph!

That’s nothing . . . get him rolling on fuel cells and aliens.

WTF is wrong with Renault? Why they are still not selling the Zoe in Norway?

The Zoe is coming in December.

Is it start of pre-orders or actual delivering?

I love all that oil money being used to buy EVs. 🙂

I wonder what’s left of BMW, Mercedes and Audi sales after Tesla’s asteroid hit this part of the global automotive Jurassic park.

From what I could find Model S even outsold BMW’s highly successful 3-series. Not surprising since the starting price of a Model S/85 is lower than a 328i. I wonder what’s left of 5 and 7 series sales…

all out electric car marketing start
