Audi Shows Off Towing Ability Of E-Tron Electric SUV

As many fans know, Audi arrived days before the official start of the popular GTI Meet at Lake Wörthersee (held from May 9 to 12), presenting in Reifnitz its latest e-tron electric vehicles.

Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo

The prototype of the upcoming production Audi e-tron all-electric SUV came to the event towing a trailer with the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo on board.

The e-tron Vision Gran Turismo racer’s weight is 1,450 kg (3,200 lbs), which comes on top of the trailer weight (unknown). We see it can tow, however we don’t know the e-tron SUV full hauling capabilities just yet.

All-electric range (without the trailer) is to be more than 400 km (250 miles) WLTP using a 95 kWh battery. With the trailer it could be half of that or even less.

“In its specially developed design camouflage that skillfully presents the high-voltage drive system, the electric SUV will demonstrate its suitability for everyday use. As well as a long range of more than 400 kilometers (248.5 mi) in the WLTP driving cycle and the electric quattro that ensures powerful performance on any terrain, the optional trailer hitch offers new options for using the electric car – for sport and leisure activities, for instance.

On the trailer, the prototype will be transporting the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo concept car. Originally developed exclusively for virtual races on the PlayStation 4, Audi is making the electrically driven Formula E race car concept a reality. Since the race in Rome, the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo has been deployed as a race taxi for the electric racing series.”

That is pretty cool, but the E-Tron carries over such a ICE looking profile…. 🙁 I-Pace cab forward look has a much nicer profile, and is much more space efficient.

But many people still prefer the “ICE-look”. So IMO it’s good that people have some choice with their luxury SUVs. Maybe soon other vehicles but compact hatchbacks and luxury SUVs will get some choice in the EV market.

Looks like a very nice station wagon or 5 door hatch with good towing.
