At the CES Asia show, Audi unveiled the 2015 R8 e-tron, which as you know has 450 km (280 miles) of range (NEDC) on 92 kWh battery and sprints from 0-62.1 mph in 3.9 seconds.

But this new R8 e-tron is different, because it can enjoy the performance itself, without the driver!

Autonomous sports car?

“The R8 e-tron piloted driving technical study is equipped with all of the functions of piloted driving. Data is acquired from the interplay of an array of sensors: a new type of laser scanner, several video cameras, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors at the front and rear. Based on signals from these sources, the central driver assistance control unit (zFAS), a compact central computer, computes a comprehensive picture of the vehicle’s environment.”

We may be at the very early start of the “Battery Pack Wars”. 😉

Cavaron

Much better than oil wars 😉

nedc 450km = EPA 310km?

mr. m

Model S85 has 500km NECD, 424km EPA.

so 450km NECD —> 380km EPA = 238miles EPA

Someone out there

Wow, very interesting! The competitors are coming for you, Tesla! It’s time to get your gear into shape and start delivering or you will be passed by!

The Woodster

Mmm, yeah, not really. Not a 2-seater that’s slower then a family sedan P85D.

Nice blue color, though.

Weirdest comment ever.

Tesla has been delivering for almost 3 years now:
– more range
– better performance
– 3x seating capacity
– full-size trunk
– frunk

Dit I miss something? Oh yeah, the supercharger network.

The Audi is still vaporware.

mr. m

i’m pretty sure the audi will have better performance aka handling. Performance is not measured on a straight lane, it is measured on a racing course (with curves!)

mo

Interesting you’re pretty sure about a product’s driving and handling that is concept vaporware atm.

Eric Richner

And where is Audi’s supercharger network? Fools!

mr. m

why are all my comments lost?

Jay Cole

Hi Mr. M,

I checked our spam filter and didn’t see any other comments from you (including this one, I see three comments made today), all three in this thread. Perhaps for some reason you can’t see/missed them above? Anywhoo, those are here.

Do let us know (or email us) if you see any specific comment not showing, as that should not be the case. The only time that will/should happen is if you have 3 links in a comment, in which case it will be held in moderation limbo (helps to keep spamming down) until one of the staff clear it.
