Arnold Schwarzenegger On Hand For Presentation Of World’s First Electric Hummer H1

SEP 20 2017 BY MARK KANE 16

Arnold Schwarzenegger (aka The Terminator) shows up to help unveil the world’s first electric Hummer H1.

Kreisel Electric just opened its new research and development center accompanied by Austrian Federal Chancellor Mag. Christian Kern and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Having Arnold as the patron, it was perfect opportunity to unveil the first all-electric off-road Hummer H1.

It’s equipped with two motors (one per axle) for all-wheel drive (total 360 kW of peak power) and a 100 kWh battery. Range of the Hummer H1 EV is 300 km (186 miles).

Earlier this year, Arnold received a custom Mercedes-Benz G-Class EV. Arnie now hints that an electric airplane might soon just his stable if  progress in the battery-powered transport segments continue at such a rapid pace.

“On Tuesday evening, Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the world’s first electric Hummer from Kreisel Electric at the opening of the company’s new research and development center in Rainbach, Mühlkreis district, Upper Austria. “Kreisel Electric electrified my G-class last winter. And now a Hummer. If Kreisel keeps it up at this pace, I will soon be able to fly here from LA in an electric airplane,” said Arnold Schwarzenegger, friend and patron of the high-tech pioneers, who was clearly impressed with the electrification of his big off-road vehicle.”

Quick specs of the Kreisel Electric Hummer H1 EV:

  • 360 kW double-motor, all-wheel drive
  • 100 kWh battery for up to 300 km (186 miles) range
  • 120 km/h (75 mph) top speed
  • total weight of 3,300 kg (7,275 lbs)

The electric Hummer prototype is a one-off project that demonstrates Kreisel Electric’s capabilities.

“The standard version of this American off-road vehicle consumes up to 24 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers and emits up to 470g CO2 per kilometer. “With our electrified prototypes, we want to show what is possible using Kreisel technology. We will certainly not mass-produce these models. But our Hummer is a powerhouse in wolf’s clothing, one that drives so quietly even the sheep are not disturbed,” said Markus Kreisel, one of the founders of Kreisel Electric.

In the presence of the Austrian Federal Chancellor Mag. Christian Kern and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Markus Kreisel opened the new development and manufacturing center in Rainbach, Mühlkreis district. The new facility, which comprises almost 7,000 m2 of space, includes a prototype workshop and a completely automated manufacturing line for Kreisel Electric battery storage devices for use in the small-batch production of passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, buses, boats and airplanes, as well as in storage solutions.

With the new location, where more than 200 employees will work starting in 2018, Kreisel Electric intends to accelerate its growth course and expand its e-mobility business internationally. “The opening ceremony was attended by more than 1,000 representatives of international business and politics. This shows the great interest in Kreisel Electric and electromobility,” said Christian Schlögl, the CEO responsible for strategic development at Kreisel Electric.”

RAINBACH, Austria, September 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ —

Exclusive prototype from Kreisel Electric with 360 kW output, 100 kWh capacity and nearly 300 km range

Kreisel Electric developed an off-road prototype on the basis of the H1 model in just two months’ time. It is equipped with high-performance batteries from Kreisel Electric featuring a 100 kWh capacity and two electric motors on the front and back axles, with a system output of 360 kW (490 PS). The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and has a range of about 300 kilometers and a total weight of 3,300 kg.

As a demo model I wonder why a more practicable platform was not selected?

Trying to blast the illusion that EVs aren’t masculine.

Arnold had a huge influence with making the H1 and some would argue the entire “bigger is better” movement from redneck to macho…

Well, when you do a conversion built to order, you better build whet the customer wants. Schwarzenegger wanted a Hummer H1, fully electric. So they made it (and removed 1 gas guzzler from this planet in the process, which is always good).
BTW: There was no coverage of the Swiss Komatsu mining truck EV conversion, the first commercial BEV that you have to plug in at night to DISCHARGE, as it produces electricity during driving (recuperating downhill with 65 tons of payload, going back up empty)

I can not imagine a BETTER demo model than a vehicle that was getting less than 10 MPG.
By converting to EV, its efficiency jumped WAY up, while having similar torque.

Personally, I think that making small vehicles that get say 50 MPG into EV is more of a waste than converting those getting 5 MPG.

I like the F150 that Protean Electric had.

A hummer is way more useless than a pickup.

Yuval Brandstetter MD

Great. So there anothercDoctor Brandstetter in addition to myself. Anyway there IS an electric airplane in Israel. Look ip EViation in Qadima Israel they are on the cusp of executive electric flights

yeah, they are pretty far behind.
Multiple others are much further ahead.

See their website.
This is what they did to the eGolf:
The Kreisel battery pack significantly increases the capacity of the eGolf by 130% to 55.7 kWh with an identical installation volume and weight in comparison to the standard model of the VW eGolf.

Why not just get a Bollinger B1?

Because this thing exist NOW rather than waiting for something that looks good on paper and as prototype but doesn’t exist yet.

Good job.. you’ve created a >7,000lb watt guzzler

Wow, now you can definitely trash the Earth in all electric way. How CooL and Hi-Tech!

Well, Probably good that the Governator is involved…. Hey it beats his Hydrogen Highway.

Yes, it’s a subject that has been discussed many times. It would probably be impossible to make a Hummer ev more polluting than a gas one at 12 mpg… gas also requires lots of energy to be produced, it’s not spring water.

This is just to demonstrate that Kreisel can make EVs, and can for example help a company to make limited volume EVs out of existing car models.

So.. if you’re a manufacturer of ICE cars, and have not been paying attention to EVs – and have to make a few for certain markets.. I’m sure it’s cheaper to hand over a project to Kreisel, so they can make a certain number of EVs for you.

If you desire… you can get an EV version of each and every model you make. You can of course set the price to a level few people will pay.. but you can still brag that each and every car model you sell also can be bought as an EV..
