Nissan LEAF sales in Norway – 2017

The 2018 Nissan LEAF isn’t yet available in Norway, but demand there is already through the roof.

2018 Nissan LEAF

Norwegian media is reporting that Nissan of Norway has record some 4,000 pre-orders for the 2018 LEAF ahead of its launch.

Globally, there are now over 40,000 new LEAF orders waiting to be filled.

The Nissan LEAF never exceeded a level of 716 sales during a single month in Norway,high-water mark was set in October 2013, but with exceptionally high demand for the next generation model, that single-month mark of 716 could fall soon.

From September 2011 through December 2017, some 22,781 LEAFs were sold in Norway with more than 10,000 used imported added to that, we believe.

The New LEAF should rebound its market share among BEVs in Norway, however the golden era of more than 90% of all-electric cars sales belonging to the LEAF will never return.

Im pretty excited about the leaf. Model 3 is understandably getting all the attention and hype but the leaf could actually be the first mass-market (i.e 100,000+ sales per year) EV that is profitable for its manufacturer and at a price most people can aspire to.

The Leaf is mass market even if has not hit those sales yet and they might this year but I am fairly certain that Nissan sells the Leaf at a profit…

$5k difference between $30k and $35k base price makes no material difference in how many people aspire to a vehicle.

And Model 3 will reach profitability before LEAF. More volume at higher average transaction price equals more profit.

During the Leaf reveal in Japan last year, a Nissan executive told the audience that Nissan makes money on every single Leaf. Nissan are already at profitability with the Leaf

When it comes to the profitability of BEVs the world seems to be awash in FUD FUD FUD and more FUD and the legacy auto makers even have many EV enthusiasts believing it…

In Norway last year, the Leaf only sold 3300 units, and was heavily outsold by the eGolf, i3, Outlander PHEV, and the Teslas.

Looks like the 2018 model is quickly turning things around! IMO it makes the old Leaf look like a piece of junk.

I think the combo of range and ProPilot make the Leaf really stand out of the crowd below $35k.

Tesla will obviously and deservedly kick ass, but the Leaf should be #2 for a few years.

The good news is that even with 4k on order in Norway the Leaf still might be out sold by the model 3 and eGolf as they both have many on order there too…

Actually, I do not consider it to stand out. The Hyundai Ioniq Electric, which I have owned for 6 months performs as well or better in many regards. The difference i battery does not correspond to a similar difference in range, especially considering driving at higher speeds and cold climate.

No way… the new LEAF outperforms the Ioniq Electric in every aspect. Check the specs.
