SEP 23 2013 BY STAFF 5

This is more a public service announcement than anything else, but for those who may not be aware, the third annual National Plug In Day is just around the corner (September 28-29).

National Plug In Day is an event put on by Nissan, Plug In America, Sierra Club, Electric Auto Association, Schneider and others.

There are Plug In Day events across the US (see map above or click here for detailed info on events in your area).

Now, we’ll turn it over to Plug In day organizers for a basic description of what Plug In Day is all about:

“National Plug In Day is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today’s widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. They are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.”

“Throughout the weekend of September 28 – 29, 2013, events across the US and other countries will celebrate the third annual National Plug In Day.”

“Each celebration event will be led by local plug-in drivers and advocates and will include some combination of EV parades, ride-and-drives, electric tailgate parties, press conferences, award ceremonies, informational booths, and more. Plug In America, Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association serve as the national team providing support to the events throughout the country. We are pleased to partner with the many other organizations and individuals working to bring National Plug In Day to communities across the country.”

***cough*** National Plug In Weekend ***cough***

They call it a “Day” still…so there

Great and we have a 40% chance of rain that Saturday.

Well, I guess the event is getting larger from year to year. It WAS just on a single day – a Sunday – back in 2011, when just 30 or so cities participated. Some hosted two day event last year and/or chose to host on the adjacent Saturday. It’s also gone international this year, with cities in Mexico, Canada and The Netherlands. To accommodate regional activities that might otherwise dominate, some local organizers wisely move their NPIDs to the next nearest weekend. The important thing to keep in mind is that these volunteer organized events are occurring. The actual “day” and even the “national” element is the things that’s going to be in flux

Ours in Tucson is on the “official” day: Sunday, September 29th, and we call it Tucson Plugs In 2013 . . .

Come on out and join us, if you’re nearby!

If you glance at the map you’ll see the northeast is well represented. Brian will be at Syracuse and I’ll be at Penfield (east of Rochester). The 13 ev’s expected will have to line up to a Donated Chevy Voltec (15 amps at 200 volt) 3.0 kw charger.

(I think I can make the round trip without using it, since its going to be a busy event.)
