Never-ending queue of electric cars … yupe, that must be Norway.

Renault recently announced delivery of 240 Kangoo Maxi Z.E. electric vans for the Norwegian postal service.

Now, Norwegians are one step closer to zero-emission mail.

“With a range of 170 km NDEC (80 to 125 km under usual driving conditions), Kangoo Maxi Z.E. is well-suited to the everyday tasks of administrations and companies. Posten’s red Kangoo Maxi Z.E.s will mostly be used in areas of high population density.

Posten, which already has a fleet of 900 electric vehicles (cars, bikes, quadricycles, trailers), is taking a further step forward in environmental responsibility with the purchase of Kangoo Maxi Z.E. It is targeting a 40% reduction in its CO2 emissions by 2020, a very substantial measure when we consider that this company alone accounts for no less than 1% of CO2 emissions in Norway as a whole.”

The USA needs to do this. Scrap those old Grumman pollution machines and go electric.

Postal deliver is perfect for EVs. Generally less than 100 miles a day. Stop & go driving. Centralized facility where you can charge them up at night. Even a post office building where you can install solar PV on its roof and thus generate electricity to charge the EV postal vans!


Note that the eNV-200 while shorter-range than the Leaf (same battery but heavier/bulkier), all have ChaDeMo. Which means that if the driver stops for coffee at a place that has ChaDeMo, they can meanwhile recuperate some 30-50% battery. Not to mention lunch. In other words, in an urban setting with the proper infrastructure a light-delivery eNV-200 van is never really at risk of getting stranded.

There are many rural routes that are longer than 100 miles. For example, my wife’s route is 109 miles. I would think that for most routes an electric vehicle such as an eNV200 would work for most routes and would not be too far off from being able to work for a route like my wife’s. It would be interesting to see how much farther a vehicle can get with the amount of regenerative braking from all the stops.

This is awesome. Warms my heart to see some countries doing the right thing. You think we could fire every politician in the US and hire Norway’s?

It’s a shame that Renault has no sign in updating the Kangoo Z.E mechanically.

I guess they’ll keep it as it is as soon as all their postal and other contracts rum out. No telling if it will be axed, or renewed after that.

We all need to let Nissan know how disappointed we are that they will not be deliverying the eNV200 in the states. Mr Ghosn has failed to put his money where his mouth is. For shame. Contact Nissan!
