The Toronto Electric Vehicle Association TEVA took a recent opportunity to test drive the BMW i8, and filed a video report.

The video (above) includes both a brief presentation of the German flagship, and impressions of the car on a drive.

One of the topics we always see being covering in the i8 is the fake simulated engine sound, that is piped into the cabin over the actual sound of the three-cylinder…but interestingly, few seem to mind the addition.

In the first half of the year, BMW sold nearly 100 i8 in Canada (not bad compared to just about 180 i3s). In U.S. sales exceeded 600 over the same period.

‘few seem to mind the addition’.

I’m one of those few.

People who buy sports cars don’t like fake things, and most I’d think would like to hear the REAL engine however it sounds.

It seemed the driver was unaware the ‘v-8’ 3 cylinder sound was fake – he even thinking there was a mild backfire.

I guess I’m spoiled, but 15 mile EV range for such an expensive car makes this car one of the poorest values out there.

Again if it was REAL then it would be different, but if you have a hodgepodge of things, fake sound, and a beyond dinky battery, what have you really got? And the rear seats are more than a challenge.

This video convinced me *NOT* to get interested in the I8.
