2015 Audi A3 Starting Price is $29,900 – What Will the PHEV Version Cost?

Now that Audi has officially announced US pricing for its 2015 A3, we can begin to take guesses at how much the PHEV version will cost.

“The base MSRP for the Audi A3 1.8 TFSI will start at $29,900 and the 2.0 TFSI® will start at $32,900.”

A3 option packages can easily add $10,000 onto those prices.

Audi has not announced pricing for the TDI “clean” diesel version of the a3, nor has it announced pricing for the high-performance S3 variant.

But, with those two available MSRPs now known, we can probably home in on pricing for the PHEV A3, which will launch in the US in early 2015.

Officially called the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, here’s a rundown of the basic specs:

  • Its average fuel consumption is just 1.5 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers (156.81 US mpg)

  • total driving range is 940 kilometers (584.09 miles).
  • The battery of the A3 Sportback e-tron has an energy capacity of 8.8 kWh and can be charged in less than 2.5 hours using a 16 A electrical outlet.
  • The five-door, five-seat vehicle has weight of  1,580 kilograms (3,483.30 lb)

The questions are as follows:

  1. How much would you be willing to pay for the A3 PHEV?
  2. What price tag do you think Audi will pin to it?

It won’t offer AWD so the A3 plug-in is off my short list for next plug-in. I believe the price would be about $50K.

As much as it is Audi, they would try to either compete with the Volt’s price or compete with the i3 and B-Class ED. I suspect the latter as they always compete with each other. Considering that VW considers its Golf PHEV (which is identical to this) as an equal alternative to the GTI, I’d say the guess of the price wouldn’t be too far off from the Gold GTI or Audi equivalent.

I would guess $42-44k base. It is off my list due to low electric miles (22 or so).

That sounds about right. The current A3 2.0 TFSI has a build price of $42,595 with zero options. So add about $8k for electric tech, then start piling on the options.

AFAIK the only ones with 4WD are the Tesla X or the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at around half the price.
Have I missed any?

That’s about it, unless GM comes to the table with a CUV plug-in….

lol same price as the CLA with no options…. bs advertising

1) I would be willing to pay around the same price as a similarly optioned Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV that will actually have AWD.

2) Audi will want way more, and won’t deliver the AWD.

The U.S. price for the A3 2.0 220 HP model is $34,345 with no options. This includes S-Tronic automatic and 4WD. Not $42,595 as someone said. The e-tron will be 8 to 10 k more, I expect.

The deal killer for me is no quick charge (that I know of). If it had QC, maybe $35K – $37K.
