2013 Ford Fusion Energi Scores NHTSA 5-Star Crash Safety Rating

MAY 21 2013 BY ERIC LOVEDAY

The 2013 Ford Fusion Energi “earned the highest possible “five-star” Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),” according to Ford.

Achieving the 5-star rating is quite common today, but it’s worth pointing out that some electric vehicles, including the 2013 LEAF, didn’t fare quite so well in the hands of the NHTSA.

As Ford points out, the NHTSA has “elected to test plug-in vehicles separately from vehicles powered by gasoline internal combustion engines,” which means that the standard Fusion and the Fusion Hybrid were tested separately, with both of those vehicles grabbing the five-star safety rating, too.

Additionally, the 2013 Fusion was named an IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) Top Safety Pick+, the highest IIHS rating awarded for a passenger vehicle.
