Renault sells its two seat Twizy in both an Urban 45 and Urban 80 trim level.  The main difference between the two is the top speeds: 45 km/hr (28 mph) and 80 km/hr (50 mph).

Part of the reason for the two models was two distinct classifications.

The Urban 45 being a “light quadricycle” and the Urban 8 a “heavy quadricycle”, as such the Urban 45 (from  €6,990 ), was more easily accessed by the youths of Europe.

Now thanks to the European Union’s harmonization of driving licenses, which concerns these “light quadricycles” which are limited to a 4 kW engine, teenagers as young as 14 in France, Italy or Spain can get behind the wheel of a new Twizy.

Kids these days have it rough.

Good for them and great idea!

Someone explain to me why battery capacity is ristrictered for young people?!?

The 4 kW is the EU *engine power* maximum for this class of vehicles.

Mixing this up with battery capacity is a journalist snafu I guess…

Whoops, yes, that should be 4 kW, not kWh…little presswire mix-up there, (=

Thanks for the heads-up! /fixed

Jean, seems so.

French kids must be more mature in general than Americans. Of course the typical TV shows we Americans have are dumbing down the adults as well.
I wonder what Russian policy is?

Ever notice how the financial shows are now competing to have the hottest babes they can find spewing the polemic? Their advice may be next to worthless but at least they’re easy on the eyes. And that RT.com self-described ‘fighter-girl’ is smokin’.

And their 14 year olds can legally drink too.

How terrible.

Sounds like a recipe for car-nage to me…
