At the 2014 IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover, Volvo unveiled its new 7900 Plug-In Hybrid bus, equipped with a new roof charging system.

Charging the 19 kWh battery pack takes just 6 minutes and let’s the new Volvo go another 10 km to the next quick charging station (possibly using ICE backup for a while).

Here is video from the show, where the first prototype sits with colors of the Hamburger Hochbahn, who ordered the few first units.

It looks unique and the charging station looks like an overgrown lantern, but still very compact for a 300 kW unit.

    10 km :L

  2. Som says:

What? Is the bus supposed to sit at every bus stop for 6 minutes? That can’t be right?

  3. Municipal buses often sit at terminal points and transfer points for a while so they don’t get to ahead of their schedule.
