BMW, with its i brand, is setting out to change the way the automotive world thinks of electrified vehicles.

Evidence of this is in the blank-slate design of both the i3 and i8.

Neither vehicle is an adaptation of some existing offering, but rather they’re both done from the ground up.

In designing such vehicles, the sky is the limit, as they say.

Both BMW head of design Adrian van Hooydonk and i8 project manager Henrik Wenders agree that when there’s no existing product you’re trying to mimic, the task of designing actually becomes more difficult, but at the same time the elements of excitement and creativity rise to another level.

While the BMW i3 is polarizing on the outside, the i8 seems to have achieved universal praise for its deign.

Surprisingly, both vehicles have a similar goal: to operate as efficiently as possible, while still providing the performance that one would expect from each of the dramatic different ultimate driving machines.

The i3 is the “family sedan,” while the i8 is the “take the long way home” automobile, but both can get it done electrically and efficiently the majority of the time.

We truly do applaud BMW for its grand effort into plug-in vehicles, the likes of which we haven’t seen outside of Renault-Nissan.

That’s the guy who designed the i3? Now I understand. He can’t even seem to understand the design of a decent haircut.

Thank you! The i3 is not very attractive.
