Nissan Introduces Consumer Loyalty Program On 2011-2012 LEAFs

Do you own a 2011 or 2012 Nissan LEAF?  Are you thinking you might upgrade to the newer, cheaper, longer range 2013 LEAF?  Or just add another to the family fleet? (See bolded note at the bottom of this post if you’re looking to save $1,000, but want to keep possession of your beloved 2011 or 2012 LEAF).

Nissan thinks you might be.  So, to sweetened the pot some, they are giving existing Nissan electric car owners $1,000 in bonus cash to be used against the purchase or lease of a new 2013 Nissan LEAF (or any other Nissan product).

This means that the new $28,800 entry level S model LEAF could be had for $27,800 before Federal and state incentives.  Inside a lease, this would bring the nationally advertised $199/36 month lease down to about $170.  As always deal can (and almost always will) sell for less.

“Most Nissan LEAF owners are new to the brand and have an average of 2.4 cars per household. With this program, we’re looking to welcome more family members to the brand and introduce them to our other vehicles,’” said Brendan Jones, Nissan director for EV marketing and infrastructure development.

Here is the fine print on qualifying (via Ray at Nissan Of Everett via mynissanleaf.com):

  • Offer valid on the purchase or lease of any new Nissan vehicle (excludes Infiniti)
  • Offer is transferable to members of the household/immediate family
  • Offer may be combined with any/all other offers available at the time of purchase
  • Offer is limited to one transaction (one lease or one retail sale)
  • Customer must provide their MY11 or MY12 Nissan LEAF VIN

Note: Owners of MY11 or MY12 Nissan LEAFs need not trade in their vehicles.  Simply by showing ownership, you or other members of your household/immediate family qualify for $1,000 in bonus cash.  So, if you want to hold on to your older LEAF, then that’s fine, too.

    A lease buy out incentive would have been much better.

    and for those who own their Leafs what are they offering for a trade in?

    I’ve got an Arizona Leaf with reduced range. what will you give me on a trade in?

    It really would not make sense to trade in a 2011/2012 Leaf SV/SL to get the stripped Leaf S with the slow 3.3 charger. And by the time you pay for the $1,300 upgrade, the Leaf SV lease is a better deal.

    It’s clear what Nissan is doing is trying to get 2011/2012 Leaf owners with the slow 3.3 charger, to upgrade to a new SV or SL for faster charging. Thats really the only benefit for the consumer, as the car has not really changed.

    This may also be an effort to try and keep current Leaf owners from switching to the Focus Electric as Ford is gearing up for a sales push. But with Nissan bring up the issue, just may have many taking a closer look at the Focus EV(faster charging, thermal protected battery) if they are looking to make a change. Ford is also offering $1,000 conquest lease cash to get you out of a competitors lease.

    The only caveat for CA is the $2,500 rebate states you must have own/lease the vehicle for 36 months. There is no time restriction for the federal tax credit.

      Have you actually bothered to compare specs? Clue number 1: the rated 100% range has jumped from 73 miles to 84 miles (66 miles at 80%). Clue number 2: the rated consumption has dropped from 0.34kWh/mi to 0.29kWh/mi.

      HEAT PUMP, HEAT PUMP, HEAT PUMP: if you regularly need to use heat it’s going to make a _big_ difference, and given the cold test in the new 5-cycle test I fully expect that did make a difference.
      Weight reduction: the new car is 1% lighter, the S is 2% lighter.
      Aerodynamics: the new car is more aerodynamic. I don’t have a number on the changes.

      The result is 20% efficiency rating improvement in the city and 10% on the highway. With the new test and faster charger it’s hard to know how much is the test, how much the car and how much the charger, but the range improvement has nothing to do with the charger and implies the battery won’t be working as hard.

    “Bloggin” where did you get the idea this is only to trade for stripped down S model? But with that even the S model is much improved with range and effiecency. Has Ford even put those vehicles out in volume. I doubt it.
