Tesla Model S P90D Ludicrous vs Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Drag Racing – DragTimes

DragTimes certainly keeps its Tesla Model S P90D with Ludicrous Mode busy.

The most recent duel was against a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 with Capristo exhaust.

The poor Lamborghini struggles to surge off the line like an electric car can from the start. Instead, the Lambo is roaring like crazy.

Yes, the Lambo catches up, but it’s no match for the Tesla off the line.

    Lambo is 3x the price! I’ll still take the Tesla.

      Take the Tesla “HANDS DOWN” No question about! Plus I hate all that Stupid Primitive caveman Style Noise…Just Peace & quiet & GO!…..Undetected…..

    2. ffbj says:

      You mean 3 Teslas. You could two to friends.

  2. Les says:

    Wonder how may times the Lambo could do the launch before the clutches overheat?

  3. Criminals.

    Take it to the track, d-bags.

    1. RexxSee says:

      Envious?

        Hell YEA!

        1. SparkEV says:

          I think he’s referring to old race in insideevs which took place on public road. Not sure if below link will show, so search for “aventador race video” in insideevs.com.

          As others were saying, I wonder how many times Lambo can beat Tesla before needing clutch job. Without “launch control”, Tesla clearly dominates.

      2. No RexxSee, I have a Model S. I just don’t think its fair to endanger innocent people’s lives by racing on the street. Those folks didn’t agree to be spectators to a speed contest that day, which can put them at risk of injury or death.

        You think that flimsy little fence would keep one of those cars from sailing over to the highway?

        Racing on the street is profoundly selfish.

        If someone gets hurt or dies, it’s a felony and your car will be crushed. And you’ll live with shame for the rest of your life.

        It is criminal behavior in the eyes of the community because it puts innocent people at risk.

        Doesn’t seem worth the small gain: 15 seconds of adrenaline and very hollow bragging rights.

        These guys wont be bragging when something eventually goes wrong, which is inevitable.

        1. RexxSee says:

          On the street? In the middle of the country on an empty highway access…. Beware you could also get hit by a meteor.

          1. Take another look. There are other cars close enough that a 100 mph loss of control could cause injury or death. That fence would fold like a piece of paper if hit by a car.

            Even if the other driver crashes – through no fault of yours – it’s still felony manslaughter and you’re looking at serious time, maybe 10 years.

            Street racing is incredibly stupid.

            “On the street? In the middle of the country on an empty highway access…. Beware you could also get hit by a meteor.”

            Still illegal.

            RexxSee, your support of Tesla has clouded your judgement of what is legal and what is not.

            if people want to race and prove the superiority of the tesla, then go to the local drag strip or race track to do it.

            It is just wrong to do it on public street.

            If you fail to understand that basic concept then you are just another Tesla troll.

    3. evcarnut says:

      It’s a Family Sedan !

      1. Huffster says:

        Yep, but the sexy design, electrification, performance, and cool factor make up for that. Now to find that $130k laying around……….

      2. SparkEV says:

        Yup. It’s like I expect to see “baby on board” window tag and “who rescued who” sticker on bumper of Tesla.

    4. Nick says:

      Damn, no kidding.

      Is track time for these sorts of things that hard to come by?

      Just roll them all to the track for a weekend of matchups. Much safer.

  4. Norm Cutter says:

    how bout Bolt vs Tesla 3? There will be a lot or orders riding on that one.

    1. Fred says:

      Bolt <7 seconds…. Tesla 3, a year later and ? seconds.

      1. ffbj says:

        The Model III, more than likely, will crush the Bolt. A top end one a 0-60 around 5.5 sec.

        1. ModernMarvelFan says:

          “The Model III, more than likely, will crush the Bolt. A top end one a 0-60 around 5.5 sec.”

          The $37.5K Bolt will do 0-60mph less than 7 seconds.

          What is the “BASE Model III” performance?

          I think it will be better. But no point to only compare the “top end Model III”.

  5. Pablo says:

    If you look closely you’ll notice the P90D is holding the brakes and the gas pedal at the same time prior to launch. I wonder if that makes any difference since there’s no torque converter involved. Does anyone with a Model S have input on whether or not holding the brake is a better way to launch?

    1. Pushmi-Pullyu says:

      I don’t have any personal experience with drag racing the Model S, but I found this info in an article which directly addresses your question, and as you can see, it does involve depressing both brake pedal and the accelerator at the same time:

      [quote]
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      In the release notes of the new update, Tesla describes how to engage the ‘Launch Mode’:
      •Enable Max Battery Power mode via the link in Controls > Driving > ACCELERATION
      •Fully press the brake pedal with your left foot and hold firmly.
      •Fully press the accelerator pedal with your right foot, then release while continuing to hold the brake. The instrument panel will display the message “Launch Mode Enabled”.
      •After the message appears, fully press the accelerator pedal again. Then release the brake to launch within 4 seconds.
  6. Lad says:
    Even up the weight by dropping 1,000 lbs off the Tesla and then try it.
    Thought #2:
    Move the EV driveline over to the Lambo carbon fiber chassis…now you’ve really got a winner.
  7. turboro says:
    Intresting to see that the Lambo first after the 4th shift really takes pace (> 100mph?). Imagine the Tesla would have more than just one gear…Maybe a future sport roadster would have that
  8. ffbj says:
    Another indicator of the twilight of the ice.
    Now only top end supercars, have a chance in a race against a production electric sedan which is a third the price, has 10 times as much carrying capacity, as in passengers and luggage, and is able to lead through 2/3 of the race, against its competitor.
    1. ModernMarvelFan says:
      “is able to lead through 2/3 of the race, against its competitor.”
      0-60mph is only 1 very small part of the overall performance evaluation.
      As awesome as Tesla is in 0-60mph, the rest of the performance cars such as this one will easily beat Tesla around the corners.
