Tesla has been continuously pushing small updates out for Autopilot 2.0.

The latest such update brings more minor improvements to the system, including increased speed parameters on Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) and Autosteer.

Even with these updates, Autopilot 2.0 still lags behind the first-generation system, but soon 2.0 should surpass the first-gen setup.

The latest update is 8.0.2.17.9.3 and here are the changes:

  • Traffic Aware Cruise Control speed threshold increased from 80 to 85 mph
  • Autosteer speed threshold on expressways  increased from 50 to 55 mph

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says that Autopilot 2.0 will be on par with the first-gen system any day now. Farther off into the future, 2.0 will supposedly put the first-gen setup in its rearview. That’s a long-awaited promise that 2.0 owners have been demanding for quite some time now.

The biggest question this leaves is what happens if Tesla changes from nVidia to something else, will they go through the same heartache, or have they learnt how to make this vendor change better?
