A group of students from the Huntsville Center for Technology left for the UK last Wednesday where they will compete in the Greenpower Education Trust’s Central South Regional Heat at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, West Sussex.

These students are the only non-UK team invited to compete in the 2013 Greenpower National Finals, an annual race in which students design, build and drive their own electric vehicles.  “Team USA” will race in the wild card spot and has automatically qualified for the finals.  The actual race is scheduled for October.

Ahead of the race, “Team USA” will participate in a regional heat on Sunday.

Before that, the team’s vehicle will go through the “scrutineering process,” in which competition technicians ensure that the vehicle fully complies with all the rules.

For the “Team USA” students, it took nearly 18 months design and build the electric vehicle that will compete in the events.  The electric racer was first unveiled last month at the US Space & Rocket Center.
