The Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive could be the energy and main stream vehicle needed to revive the EV super car world

Mercedes Benz recently released a video showing the new electric SLS AMG super-electric-car doing a few quick laps around a race track down in Spain. The beautiful chromatic SLS AMG is shown doing some basic driving on a closed course, but with every change of direction the paint shimmers which makes this EV look stunning.

The video does not give out much information on this Tesla or Fisker competitor, but in this article they did release some stats that include:

  • 0-62 mph (0-100km/hr): 3.9 seconds
  • top speed: 155 mph
  • battery capacity: 60 kWh (made by UK-based AMG High Performance Powertrains Ltd in Brixworth)
  • battery weight: 548 kg (1,208lbs)
  • range: up to 150 miles

Take a look at the video below:

Between this and the SmartForTwo ED Daimler needs a few plug-ins in between.

How about a GLK PHEV with a diesel engine and 30+ miles AER to compete with the forthcoming Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? A Sprinter BEV van? A C-class EV?

A PHEV Sprinter that blows the upcoming Ford Transit van out of the MPG water and somehow escapes the Chicken Tax is my fantasy vehicle. A BEV Sprinter is too limited. I’d even buy a hybrid Sprinter or Ford Transit. Just think of the RV platform THAT would be!

  2. Airton says:

Agreed! The GLK is a sharp looking vehicle, if Daimler turns this into a plug in hybrid they would have a winner in their hands. My wife has her eyes on this car but I keep reminding her that you can’t plug it in.
