Renault BEVs sales – December 2016

Renault noted a decrease in its all-electric car sales toward the end of 2016 – thanks to the announcement of a new/upgraded ZOE with a 300 km (186 mile) range arriving in January of 2017 depressing Q4 sales, but overall growth from first half of the year was high enough to close the year positive.

Renault – Electric Vehicle Leader in Europe

Renault sold some 28,500 fully electric vehicles (about 26,000 without Twizy), which is over 10% more than year ago.

If we will compare the 26,000 electric vehicle deliveries with the total 2.49 million Renault sales worldwide, we will see just over a 1% share.

However, as Renault sells its EV mostly in Europe, we likely need to compare the 25,648 EVs sold there with the 1.39 million comparative overall European sales, to get a more accurate reflection of relative market share: 1.8%.

“The Renault brand stays at the top of the European electric vehicles market, with sales up by 11 % at 25,648 units (excluding Twizy). ZOE heads the electric passenger car ranking with 21,735 registrations (up 16%) and Kangoo Z.E. the electric light commercial vehicle market with 3,901 vehicles sold.”

Here are estimated preliminary sales results in 2016:

  • Renault ZOE – 22,000 (up 16%)
  • Renault Kangoo Z.E. – 4,000 (down 10%)
  • Renault Twizy – 2,500 (up 11%)

As mentioned prior, lower sales in the end of 2016 should translate in the higher sales in 2017, as customers were certainly holding off Renault plug-in purchases waiting on the new 41 kWh ZOE Z.E. offering.

The 41 kWh Zoe Z.E. looks like it will be a leader in sales for 2017!

I made a test-drive this afternoon in the new Zoe. As an electric car it is good enough, but last year this dealer had to order a Zoe for a testdrive from another branch. Now they had two and drove them themselves.

The salesperson was very positive about the numbers he expected to sell.

The Renault Zoé reaches ~5,000 orders in 3 months since “Le Mondial de l’Atomobile”. And Renault delivers 1,909 Zoé in December for France. The highest all time result for the Zoé. And also December 2016, the market has reach the highest too.
2017 will be a good year for the Renault Zoé. But in 2016 Renault sold ~11,400 Zoé and ~112,000 Clio, that means the Renault Zoé is about 10% of the Clio. Perhaps the Zoé could reach 15% this year.

Please, make this article more accurate. Renault is BEV sales leader in Europe, but in plug-in EV sales they are third behind BMW and VW.

Are you refering to those 8-16 miles AER cars?

      1. Bone says:

Some of them are those cars, some are not. All have more electric range than 99% of cars sold today.
