Porsche Debuts Plug-In Panamera Sport Turismo
Porsche made an unexpected offering this weekend at Paris Motor Show by debuting the Panamera Sport Turismo Hybrid Concept. Even more unexpected was that it is a plug-in electric hybrid that Porsche strongly infers they are going to build.
It seems like every company has a unique name for any extended range plug-in, and Porsche is no different, dubbing the Panamera Sport Turismo a “e-hybrid.”
In electric mode, the Panamera Sport Turismo can travel about 30 km (18 miles), and the German company says top speed using only electricity is 130 km/h (80 miles). The Panamera Sport Turismo Concept is a parallel hybrid, so the wheels can be powered by electricity, petrol engine, or both.
Total output, using both the electric and petrol motors, gives the car 416 horsepower, which brings a 0-100 km/hr (0-62 mph) in under 6 seconds.
Porsche says the blended mileage, is 67 MPGe on the Euro (NEDC) cycle. While the car also starts/defaults to electric power when the 9.4 kWh lithium battery still has juice, the petrol engine can also charge the battery after depletion. From a wall outlet the car can be charged as quickly as 2.5 hours.
