Pope Francis Given A Nissan Leaf, Turns Down Tesla Model S

2017 Nissan LEAF

From time to time, Popes can set an example for other world leaders with their electric cars. About four years ago Renault donated a PopeMobile Kangoo Z.E. for Pope Benedict XVI. Now, Pope Francis has received a Nissan Leaf (a 30 kWh one), given to him by German asset manager and mathematician Jochen Wermuth.

Wermuth offered also Tesla Model S, but Pope Francis “preferred a smaller vehicle” for Vatican.

“Wermuth’s connection with the Vatican extends beyond this eco-friendly gift. Wermuth’s asset management firm is working with the Vatican to update the Holy See’s investment strategy in line with the Pope’s climate views. They are using his 2015 encyclical, Laudato si’: On Care for Our Common Home, as a guide.

“Humanity is called to recognize the need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this warming or at least the human causes which produce or aggravate it,” the Pope said in his encyclical.”

For Pope Francis, environment is one of his key topics, which makes him perfect candidate to use and promote electric vehicles.

    $10k “utility rebate” programs in various states, papal donation, raffles…… Nissan working hard to move these (hopefully) soon-to-be-obselete 2017s.

            Ignoring for a minute that your post belongs on an anti-religious propaganda website…

            If you search out facts and don’t rely on biased media sources, you’ll find that the occurrences of abuse in the Catholic Church (while any abuse is unfortunate) are significantly less, percentage wise, than mega-churches or even abuses by teachers in public schools. Like, orders of magnitude lower. Numerous studies have concluded that the Catholic church is actually one of, if not the safest, places for children to be sheltered and protected from such atrocities.

            And before completely dismissing a church because of a small amount of abuses (that are wrong and should be corrected) do not forget they are also the largest charity in the world and do far more to protect children in the church through special training for all volunteers, etc.

            When one looks at facts instead of using preconceived biases to justify their opinions, like most topics, the truth becomes pretty clear.

        You clearly don’t know much about Pope Francis.

        He’s put forward a VERY different image that has infuriated conservatives.

        1. ijonjack says:

          I am not painting them all with the same Brush. Nor am I targeting individuals.. They All need to do lots of repenting. Yet they put on their normal “PHONY ACT” so they can appear like “Alter Buys” to the “Unsuspecting Public”. “Do as I say” Not as I do…Leave That to me. lol & People eat it right Up ., As They Shut Their Eyes , Ears & Minds …ie: An arrogant Priest in a nearby Parish got Caught Stealing $250,000.00 that they know of & Bragged of all the Money he Banked, While the Church was in Desperate need of Urgent Repairs. That’s Really Christ Like Isn’t It!

            I’m going to apply your “analysis” to EV drivers…

            An EV driver cut me off once, therefore all EV drivers are complete jerks and I hope I never have to talk to one.

            When you look at statistics, however, the Church is anything but what you state.

            1. ijonjack says:

              I am Talking about the Catholic Church., NOT* “THE CHURCH”..

                So am I. Perhaps you should read this and realize how wrong your conclusions are:

                As for the Catholic church? Regarded as just about the safest institution on the planet for children. Why? See below…

                The Catholic Church’s record of aggressive and proactive protective measures is unparalleled in any organization today. Since the beginning of the abuse crisis, the Catholic Church:
                – has instituted a “zero tolerance” policy in which any credibly accused priest is immediately removed from ministry. Law enforcement is also notified;
                – has trained over 5 million children in giving them skills to protect them from abuse;
                – has trained over 2 million adults, including 99 percent of all priests, in recognizing signs of abuse;
                – has conducted over 2 million background checks, including those in the intensified screening process for aspiring seminarians and priests;
                – has installed “Victim Assistance Coordinators” in every diocese, “assuring victims that they will be heard”;
                – has conducted annual independent audits of all dioceses to monitor compliance with the groundbreaking 2002 Charter for Protection of Children and Young People;
                – has instituted in all dioceses abuse review boards – often composed of child welfare experts, child psychologists, and abuse experts – to examine any claims of abuse against priests.
                No other organization even comes close to implementing the measures the Catholic Church has taken to protect children in its care. In this regard, the Catholic Church in the 21st century is the model for other institutions to follow in the safeguarding of youth.

                I’m going to stop posting now since this is a distraction from the EV-based topic at hand. But if you have an open mind you’ll see how you’ve been duped (either by yourself or others) into hating the Catholic church for something it is not.

    Good for the Pope. Pretty much anywhere the Pope would go, with all the crowds he attracts, doing 0-60 in under 10 seconds would be a public health hazard. The Leaf is all he needs.

    That’s the thing about EV’s. Even more than with gas cars, each person’s own needs WILL vary. There is no such thing as the perfect EV for everybody.

  5. jim stack says:

    Maybe he should ride a bicycle and be really humble. A ELF from Organic Transit even has 2 seats , solar roof and shade. He can even pedal. Be humble, honor creation.
