Pedal Power: Cyclists Pedal Towards Discount On Nissan LEAF

4 days ago by Mark Kane 10

In Rome, Nissan offers discounts on the LEAF purchase price (plus two years of free energy to recharge), in partnership with DinamoBike.

Nissan LEAF customers in Rome can get free charging by riding a bike

The new campaign is combined with the promotion of sustainable mobility (“DinamoBike – enjoy your power”), as potential LEAF buyers need to visit DinamoBike Café and ride a special bike that produces electricity.

“At the Circolo Paolo Rosi sports center in Rome, a special platform is available with bikes that allow production of clean energy simply by riding them.

Nissan is optimizing the clean energy by adding an exclusive opportunity to the challenge: “DinamoBikers” who ride for at least 10 minutes, consume energy at the DinamoBike Café and decide to purchase a Nissan LEAF* get a discount on the purchase price plus two years of free energy to recharge their 100% electric vehicle.

To benefit from this special offer, customers need only visit a Nissan dealership between July 7, 2017 and July 6, 2018 and show proof of the consumption of clean energy produced at the Circolo Paolo Rosi sports center.

In addition, all those who take part in the initiative can board a Nissan LEAF shuttle to the historic center of Rome, enjoying the benefits of zero-emission mobility.”

In 2016, Nissan launched its Nissan Electric Café in Paris, and also equipped it with electric bike generators – produced energy was used as a currency to pay the bill at the establishment.

“The initiative follows the Nissan Electric Café in Paris, a pop-up café opened last year to celebrate the milestone of 3 billion kilometers traveled collectively by Nissan LEAF owners across the globe. The Nissan Electric Café offered customers the opportunity to use cutting-edge technology to produce their own energy and use it as a currency to pay for goods and services, allowing them to experience the electric lifestyle for themselves.”

Wow! Most folks can put out 50 watts comfortably for hours, so figure twenty hours for a kWh. That will get them about 4 miles in a Leaf. But ten minutes of pedaling will get them “two years of free energy to recharge their 100% electric vehicle.” This is supposed to teach them about “sustainable mobility.” No wonder we are screwed.

      LOL Warren,

I read the article wondering the whole time how many watt hours they were required to put out and then lo and behold your comment answered all my questions….and more:)

    I’m pro Energy Security…

But glad to see I’m not alone thinking this Nissan Leaf campaign is idiotic.

    1. CDAVIS says:

Perhaps “idiotic” too strong a word considering the campaign is well intended….but then again:

“…customers need only visit a Nissan dealership between July 7, 2017 and July 6, 2018 and show proof of the consumption of clean energy produced at the Circolo Paolo Rosi sports center…”

Silly. Human created energy is amazingly inefficient and cost ineffective (you pay FAR more for food used than uou get in energy). However, considering the obesity epidemic, getting people to exercise is a very good thing.

    1. Warren says:

Our Bolt gets about 4 miles per kWh of energy. A person walking for endurance gets about 5 miles per kWh of energy, or about 180 mpg of lard/gasoline. Lard come the closest to your imagined obesity diet. WalMart sells 25 pound cans of lard for $1.56 per pound. or $10 per gallon equivalent. So yeah, it costs more to eat and walk than to drive. But that is because of the amount of fossil fuel that goes into our modern food supply. Hunter gathers worked for 3-5 hours a day, and lived 100% sustainably.

      1. Warren says:

Actual, at our current gas prices in central Virginia, that matches the cost of driving a Prius. But nobody just eats lard. Typical food is about a quarter as energy rich, and more expensive.

    Black mirror!

50 Watts is 60 sekunds? Do they mean a human produces 50 Watt hours in 60 sekudnds?

Does this mean a human can ouput 3 KW?

3 KW can power about 2 homes. It is renewable energy. I have an idea.

    1. mr. M says:

You can easily produce 50 W = 50 Watts. The unit is without time, so this is only power, not energy produced. Energy procuced is power times time or better known as Wh, kWh or also Ws. If you Pedal for 1h with 50W you get 50Wh or 0,05kWh.

Profi cyclist can hold/produce 300W, with peak power up to 700W. no human can produce 3kW, not for one second.
