This has to mark a first of some sort.

A Japanese plug-in vehicle will go on sale in Russia before its available in the US.

A few weeks ago, Mitsubishi released video of the Outlander PHEV completing cold weather testing in Russia.  That video foreshadowed the announcement from Mitsubishi that sales of the Outlander plug in hybrid would commence in Russia at the end of August.

Before the launch in Russia, the Outlander PHEV will hit the stage at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show.

We must admit we’re shocked by Russia getting the Outlander PHEV prior to us in the US, but more widespread availability is always a positive, so the SUVs soon-to-be-available-in-Russia status is fine by us.

  1. Big Solar says:

    dammit

This seems to lend credence to the story that the Outlander release in the US is being held up over rules compliance in California, and not by production constraints.

Then again, maybe they don’t expect to sell very many in Russia compared with the US.
