Teaser images of the Mitsubishi GR-HEV leaked out weeks ago.  Full photos hit the Internet early yesterday morning.  Now, the specs are here.

The GR-HEV is powered by a 2.5-liter Mitsubishi Clean Diesel and a front-mounted electric motor.  Specific horsepower figures are not available, but Mitsubishi promises CO2 emissions of “below 149 g/km” for the GR-HEV, which is made possible by the 1-ton pickup truck’s ability to operate in pure electric-only mode.

Mitsubishi claims that the 149 g/km of CO2 emissions is approximately 50 g/km below the lowest emitting pickup truck available today.

The four-wheel drive GR-HEV features Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) for added traction and can supply AC power (100 volts to 240 volts) on demand to power job-site equipment.

At the unveiling of the GR-HEV concept, Mitsubishi president, Osamu Masuko, stated:

“We have learned a lot from the i-MIEV electric car and the Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid, so now is the time to apply those lessons to other market segments. The GR-HEV is designed to appeal to customers in both mature and developing markets, and for purposes of fun or work.”

It’s unclear whether or not the GR-HEV Concept will make it into production in some form, but Mitsubishi does say that the GR-HEV was “developed as a conceptual successor to a long line of one-tonne Mitsubishi Motors pickup trucks – from the original 1978 Mitsubishi L200,” so maybe there’s hope.
