Jaden Smith has likely become the world’s youngest Tesla Model X owner.

At just 17 years old, Jaden (son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith) was spotted with his new Titanium Model X on Monday in Los Angeles, California.

Jaden strikes a few poses for the camera (meh) before entering his Model X and driving off.

The Smiths have a long-standing connection to Elon Musk, including a shared “After Earth” Hangout (video link) in which Musk chimes in starting at the 9:30-mark.

    Achievements include:

Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor
Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Screen Combo (with Will Smith)

If car doors were actors the FWD doors would also get a Raspberry award.

Why? The Falcon Wings perform just fine.

For now, give them 5 or even 10 years and see if they still perform fine. I am skeptical.

Not sure if you are serious.

Go read the Model X forums, plenty of issues with the car in general and the doors in particular.

          1. Anon says:

            Completely serious.

At the very minimum, they significantly delayed the Model X launch. And they probably raised the costs.

And their reliability remains to be seen . . . I hope they got them right but I worry how they will perform after a few years of wear & tear.

But as someone pointed out, much of the time those doors probably won’t be used so maybe that will help.

          1. Open-Mind says:

If I understand your logic, it seem backward to me. If the gull doors are rarely used, that makes their cost, delays, and reliability concerns even harder to justify.

The gull doors may just turn out to be a poorly chosen design goal. Kind of like Apple’s design goal in 2000 to put a computer inside a glass-like polycarbonate cube.

For both, the negatives may out-weigh the cool-factor. But it will be a few years before we know.

I would cut the guy some slack as he is just a kid. But it is probably true he should find another line of work.

    3. TomArt says:

Well, his parents are good actors. I was impressed with Will in “I, Robot” and “Enemy of the State” (with Gene Hackman), and Jada played a strong role in the Matrix trilogy. I’m not as fond of Will’s comedies, but the “Men in Black” movies were amusing.

      1. Josh says:

It is hard to argue Will Smith’s talent. He was the main character of an iconic sitcom, then an award winning music artist, followed by an award winning movie acting career.

So I guess it comes down to a nurture vs nature argument for Jaden…

and Independence Day wasn’t really His fault, lol

    NICE

  3. Pushmi-Pullyu says:

17 year old gets a car that can do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds (or even faster, depending on the version).

What could possibly go wrong? >:-/

    1. Anon says:

      At least it’s not a hydrogen vehicle…

    2. james says:

That’s what “Valet Mode” is for. I’d get a Model S/X for my sons first car absolutely (assuming I could afford it). In valet mode, you can’t turn off the app monitoring, so I’d always know where they were, how fast they were going, etc…

  4. Bobby says:

Please this cannot be EV news

    1. Anon says:

Apparently more newsworthy than Segway showing off a robot tucked into a hands free steering control at last years CES…

      I present, “Crotchbot”:

      1. Bobby says:

        I vote for crotchbot

    2. Nix says:

We could talk about Justin Bieber’s chrome wrapped Fisker….

  5. MikeG says:

Hopefully he’s a better driver than Justin Bieber

  6. kdawg says:

Maybe he is an EV advocate and is setting an example? He could have bought a Land Rover instead.

    1. mhpr262 says:

I do remember a story about him waiting for delivery of a Model S from at least a year ago. He must have really liked it.

  7. Aaron says:

I wonder if he will have the front doors modified into “Lambo”-style doors. 😛

  8. James says:

Be glad he got an electric car. I’m totally happy if every celebrity and a-hole in Hollywood drives a Tesla and not some ridiculous super at that gets 12mpg. That’s what I love about Tesla, it’s reaching past the Prius crowd (ppl like me), and folks I never imagined driving an EV are going electric. Musk is brilliant.

  9. Michael Will says:

Envy much? I congratulate him to the car, and pose as you feel like it 🙂

  10. Nix says:

Somewhere in China there is a wealthy executive going right now to buy their 12 year old a Tesla in order to beat this record.

    /sarc (I hope)

  11. Mark says:

Surprised he picked titanium color…. Kind of old man-ish.

    1. Daniel says:

Perhaps the car really belongs to mom and dad and he’s just cruising because it’s new for all we know he still has a Model S that might explain the mundane color
