Its Not A LEAF, Its a Venucia
Dongfeng Nissan is a business unit of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd., which is Nissan’s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, and one of its first orders of business according to Nissan’ CEO Ghosn was to produce an electric car for the Chinese market for 2015.
And they have done it. Relatively speaking. The JV announced, and showed off, the concept prototype of the Venucia “e-concept”, which is for all intents and purposes a Nissan LEAF with some slight cosmetic changes.
Dongfeng Nissan has set the sales bar very high, saying that the target for the Venusia brand (which will include the EV at some point) will be 300,000 units annually, with five different models and 250 outlets by 2015. According to media reports the batteries will be fabricated in China to save costs, and the car will go exactly 1 km per hour faster than the LEAF.
