Early returns on the turn-out for the Model 3 have come in well above expectations.

Some of our readers and staffers have counted more than 300 people in lines this morning when the doors opened to put a deposits down on a Model 3.  (Check out our photo and video recap from locations all over the world here)

Even Tesla Elon Musk is impressed, saying he is inspired, while promising the Model 3 reveal tonight (which will be livestreamed here) will satisfy early hand-raisers.

In line at Corte Madera now. I counted 320 in line a few minutes before they opened. Mall security said it was a much more well behaved crowd than at Apple events 🙂

    1. Anthony says:

That’s because the Apple lines tend to be a lot for scampers who are going to resell them.

Must be an amazing atmosphere there with everyone. True fans in a line for a product that has benefits for everyone. Fantastic!

Keep shooting for the stars Tesla, I hope Elon Musk stays with the company for a long time!

The employees and everyone in line were super nice and friendly. Time went by quickly with many talking about EVs.

    A complimentary dome light

    1. Anon says:

Have you SEEN the dome lights in the Model X? They’re touch / gesture sensitive, like a tablet. You can control just yours, or all of them, depending how you tap / swipe across the surface.

So many little things they thought about, and put into the Model X– it makes me wonder how much of that will get put back into the S Refresh in April, and now, the Model III.

  13. 1,500 people at UTC mall in La Jolla (San Diego) California this morning. First in line showed up at 5am yesterday. Tony Williams was 13th and camped out from 8pm last night. His wife must be remarkably understanding and supportive.

I spoke to a surprisingly large number of people in line who did not yet drive EVs.
