Electric Vehicle Sales in France Double in First Four Months of 2013; Fluence Z.E. Sales Equal Zero

In April, despite the recession and a shrinking automotive market, France recorded almost 1,500 new electric vehicle registrations, fueled mainly by heavy 7,000-euro ($9,084) incentives.

Last month’s results in France for electric passenger cars was 940 units sold and 505 units (436 were the Renault Kangoo Z.E.) for electric delivery vehicles.

Cumulative sales of electric passenger vehicles after the first four months of 2013 is 3,188 (versus 1,595 in the same time frame in 2012.).  Total sales for light commercial-duty electric vehicles was 1,780 units, as of the end of April (versus 856 in 2012.).  Therefore, we can basically say that, in the first four months of 2013, sales doubled year over year.

The Renault Zoe remains the leader, with April sales coming in at 748 units, or approximately 79.6% of the electric passenger vehicle segment.  The Nissan LEAF again took second place with 94 units sold (10% of total).   Other notable results include the Bolloré BlueCar (54 units) and the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive (33 units).

Other vehicles don’t really figure in anymore.  Mia sold only 11 units of its funky electric van and is struggling for survival.   Combined sales of the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot iOn reached just 3 units in April and not even one single copy of the Renault Fluence Z.E. was sold in France last month.   Let’s repeat that, not even one single copy of the Renault Fluence Z.E. was sold in France last month.  Ouch!

The Renault Fluence Z.E. has no quick-charge-option (besides it’s battery swap system, but there are no such stations in France), so this could be the reason. We all hope for a second gen with something like ZOEs chameleon.

The new SM3 Z.E. was already shown at Seoul Motor show this year.

I’ve said this before and I firmly believe the first country to go 100% on domestically produced electric fuel for transportation will reap great economic prosperity.

The only country where the Fluence ZE sells significantly is…Israel.

That’s right, in the end of this Q1, there were 297 Fluence ZE sold in Israel.

      Plus 125 in April

  4. Andy says:

Fluence ZE will come with the Cameleon charger 22 kW later this year.

    1. Suprise Cat says:

It has the same charger as the Zoé, 43 KW max.
