Tesla Model S P90DL

DragTimes considered upgrading its P85D Tesla Model S to Ludicrous Mode, but despite lower prices, they just decided to go ahead and buy the new P90DL, which is a little bit quicker.

Here is video of their delivery from a Tesla store and an initial test, in which DragTimes noted:

  • 0-30 mph 1.1 seconds
  • 0-60 mph 2.86 seconds
  • 0-100 mph 7.56 seconds

More tests and comparisons to come at theupcoming www.streetcardrags.com event (Sunday January 17th, 2016) with the obligatory Dodge Challenger Hellcat duel.

And he just uploaded a video with the first reaction to his P90D, go dragtimes!

I wonder if there will be any crazy hellcat driver willing to burn up his clutch to beat Tesla using my “ride the clutch to get low end torque” technique.

    1. Elroy says:

Hellcats are automatics. With traction they have hit 10 sec quarter miles also, and on a roll, or top end (200+ mph) they pull harder than the Tesla. Look at acceleration graphs that a major magazine did.

      1. SparkEV says:

You mean there will be no manual transmission Hellcat in races? They do come with manual. From car and driver

“We covered 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds in the manual, three-tenths off the pace of the automatic.”

I suspect the (sane) driver didn’t burn up his clutch doing the 0-60 run.

The link to my post describing “ride the clutch” technique disappeared; too many links posted I guess…

      2. Whoa, fantastic, that’s great news!

Except one thing. I don’t give a damn about the Hellcat, and I wish people stopped bringing it up. It’s an EV site. I’m interested in EVs. I couldn’t care less about some smelly gas-guzzling dinosaur.

I second that emotion. Why keep beating that dead horse, or in this case a dead cat.
          Pointless drivel.

I don’t know about others, but I enjoy seeing EV kicking gas car’s butt. In case of Hellcat vs Tesla, physics say Hellcat could be quicker if they burn up the clutch. But if it does beat Tesla (at great cost), I’m hoping Tesla will come up with something even quicker and put even bigger grin on my face. Turbo boost from KITT?

I just saw a Fiat500e dusting what looks like a Camaro at stop light. SMILES! 🙂

I usually enjoy giving a LEAF a good run from a dead stop. Surprisingly they are sometimes quick off the line, but I have learned and observed from elroys post that anything EV and even ICE will beat a LEAF after 30MPH which is very satisfying. One of these days I would love to own a tesla for the ultimate blow your socks off EV.
