Buy A Non Popular Gas-Guzzler And Get An EV For Free

Free EV for you when you buy a van for your wife... sounds like a deal to me.

According to an article posted by Car Advice, Renault is offering a sweet deal if you are in the market for a gasoline powered wagon, van, or large sedan in Spain.

Currently, new car sales in Spain is at a 19-year low in the first six months of 2012. To try and boost the sales of their slowest models, Renault  is offering a free Twizy electric car when you purchase a new Laguna, Latitude, or Escape. These gasoline powered vehicles are among the slowest selling vehicles in history for Renault.

The Renault Twizy is a two seater EV that has a range around 60 miles per charge.

Based on the advertisement from Renault, a 2012 Renault Grand Laguna wagon has an MSRP of about $27,500 US. Add in the value of the Renault Twizy, approximately $8170, and your new station wagon cost just over $19,000.

Seems like a good deal, however the current recession facing Spain has been estimated to last until 2014, according to the International Monetary Fund. They also claim the economy is so dire in Spain that what happens there could possibly affect all of Europe.

There is no word if Renault will offer this deal in other markets they sell both vehicles like Australia. To learn more about this deal, check out the story on Australian Car Advice.

Yes, but does a free Twizy mean there is no government tax break?
