Born Electric Tour. BMW i-Series Goes Around the World (Video)

BMW will be showcasing both the i8 and i3 in a world tour that kicks off at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome from 21st to the 23rd of June 2012.  From there over the next several months it will come to Dusseldorf, Tokyo, New York, London, Paris and Shanghai.  BMW invites anyone in the area to “experience BMW i with the BMW i3 concept and the BMW i8 concept as pioneer vehicles of the first electric cars from BMW.”

  • BMW i3 –  125 kW /170 hp electric motor, which is already being tested in the ActiveE.  0-60 comes up in about 8 seconds, and is said to have a real world range of over 90 miles.
  • BMW i8  – which has a tuned version of the i3 electric motor mated with a 3 cylinder engine,  they combine to produce up to 164 kW/220 hp of power.  Billed primarily as a sports car, despite 2+2 seating,  0-60 is said to be achieved in under 5 seconds, while provided 105 mpg on average.  All electric range of the car is about 20 miles

Both the i3 and i8 will go on sale from BMW in 2013.
