BMW CEO Harold Kruegar – Confidently Not Falling Down Beside The BMW Vision Next 100

BMW has live debuted the Vision Next 100 on the occasion of the company’s 100th birthday in Geneva.

The concept is said to point to the future of the company, and it certainly looks sleek and futuristic…but is it electric, fuel cell, or old fashion petrol?

From the looks of things (and common sense) we assume the future BMW is powered by electricity, and it is certainly alluded to in the car’s bio, but BMW has certainly gone out of their way to not say specifically – perhaps they aren’t moving as far from traditions of the past as they are representing in this case.

Electric or not,  the car certainly has enough swell new features that we couldn’t help but pass it along regardless…and besides that, we certainly don’t see a place to fill ‘er up with gas.

As for what the Vision Next 100 offers:

Driving The BMW Vision Next 100

*- selectable drive modes – human (boost) and autonomous (ease), with the autonomous mode being the most interesting with a retractable steering “wheel”

*- 4 seats, apparently the world doesn’t live or die on the 5th seat in the future.

*-  flexible skin sections that shift as the car moves

*-  wheel arches are covered in a copper-like fabric that shift in and out as to improve efficiency

*- full-windshield heads-up display

*- 193 inches long, 54 inches high (5 series sizing basically)

*- “Alive Geometry” – hundreds of molded triangles inside that pop up and turn red to warn the driver of danger

BMW has put together a full microsite on the car if interested, as well as produced a few videos (below) on the concept.

    BMW P-L B.S.
Future cars will be drones, autonomous (antigravity?) 1-4 seater drones everywhere on multiple corridors. The fastest, easiest way to get from A to B.

First we need to secure a steady supply of unobtanium.

      1. RexxSee says:

        I meant : BMW P.R. B.S.

But no need for unobtanium at all. It will work with magic like TV, computers and the Internet… Electronicum Wavibus Leviatorum…

Wow. I just send in a little snippet and Jay turns it into a magnum opus. Cool.

100 years into the future? I’m going to go with fusion reactor and plasma jets.

    1. I was thinking… Mr. Fusion! Great Scott!

  5. Pushmi-Pullyu says:

    Cool futurism from BMW!

Not so sure about that steering wheel, though. There is a very practical reason why steering wheels on most cars are a full circle, and geometry will still be the same 100 years from now.

  6. Benjamin says:

This looks like the Audi in iRobot movie with Will Smith.

    1. floydboy says:

Yeah, it does in a way. I seem to remember that car had spherical tires too.

      1. Benjamin says:

Yup. I think it’s the Audi RSQ.
