Another more popular automotive YouTube channel, The Fast Lane Car, gets its hands on the new BMW i8. Needless to say, The Fast Lane Car loves it.

TFL Car briefly spoke in regards to Tesla Motors. Let’s just agree that those who buy the i8 or the Model S do so for different reasons.

TFL Car will soon be giving the i8 to a former Formula 1 driver, as stated in the video above. We are eager to follow up on that as well. If TFL Car loves the i8 this much, imagine what they will think when it performs on the track.

We’re beginning to think that we won’t see even one negative review of the BMW i8.  Could it be that the i8 is that spectacular?  It seems the i8 is following in the Model S footsteps in this regard. Could it be that both the i8 and Model S are so amazing that any negatives are largely put to rest by the wealth of positives?

My ONLY complaint about the i8 comes from the EV guy in me… It doesn’t have enough electric range. It’s battery has about the same capacity as a C-Max Energi. So, I’d imagine 20-miles is probably the high-end of what you could get out of it.

I’m not sure how this guy considers the i8 an answer to Tesla. The Tesla Model S is a 100,000 electric sedan with a 400 km range(thereabouts), epa rated. The i8 is a 136,000 dollar sports car with an epa rated range of something like 24 km. Higher cost and lower range for the i8 means they are not comparable in my opinion.

Sorry for the rant. I just don’t see the comparison.

When will EV supporter understand the fact that people who shop in the $100K range care about performance over MPG or total EV range…

That is why i8 has a market. Tesla is a great drag racer (Typical American design). But it is heavy and don’t corner like an i8.

This just reinenforce the old myth that American sports does great in the straight line but can’t corner worth a darn….

The i8 has next to useless back seats and trunk, while the Model S comfortably seats 5 and gives you 31 cubic feet of cargo space.

The BMW with similar room is the 7 series or 6-series GT, not the i8. And handling is comparable there.
