BMW i8 Laser Light

We’ve now seen the BMW i8’s laser light technology perhaps a dozen times from BMW, but have we seen the tech in animated form?

BMW believes animation is the way to fully understand how the system works, so the automaker released this video:

“Animation of BMW Laserlight. This highly efficient light source is arriving on our roads in a production car for the first time to provide the high beam in the BMW i8 headlight.”

As for BMW laserlights, those units “will be celebrating their world premiere as of Autumn 2014. This highly efficient light source is arriving on our roads in a production car for the first time to provide the high beam in the BMW i8 headlight. Boasting an extremely long, unmatched range, the BMW Laserlights system completely redefines standards for safety, efficiency and design.”

Note that “Autmun 2014” represents a delay of a few months over the previously promised May/June launch of the BMW i8.

Hmm. I was wondering how they did theirs. Not impressed. It is not an inherently safe design from what I can see. Been working for a couple years to design a safe laser lighting setup for portable applications.

      What’s wrong with it?

LELs will be as common as LEDs, soon enough…
